Airbus A321 ‘tail-strikes’ continue to remain a concern and impose costly repairs for operators compared to other Variants of A320 Family or Other Models ! Take a look at the recent incidents of A321 tail strikes.

– On 14 April 23 , Airbus A321-251NX aircraft (VT-IML) of IndiGo did a tail strike while landing on Runway 32 of Nagpur (NAG) and remained grounded till date.

– On 02 January 23 , Airbus A321-252NX aircraft (VT-ILR) of IndiGo did a tail strike at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU), Kolkata.

– On 01 December 22, LATAM Chile Airlines Airbus A321-211 aircraft (CC-BEJ) did a tail strike in the act of takeoff from Runway 17R of Santiago de Chile Airport (SCEL).

– On 31 January 22 , British Airways Airbus A321-251NX aircraft (G-NEOP) did a tail strike in the act of Touch and Go around on Runway 27R due to stormy weather at London-Heathrow Airport (LHR).

– On 15 October 21 , LATAM Airlines A321-200 (PT-MXF) did a tail strike during take off at Belem Val de Cans International Airport, (BEL).

– On 15 February 20, Air India Airbus A321 aircraft (VT-PPU) did a tail strike during take-off while operating Pune – Delhi AI-852 flight.

What does Airbus say about this ?
“Most of the tailstrikes on A320 family aircraft occur during landing in manual mode (Auto Pilot OFF), when the sidestick is maintained in the aft position after touch down”
